We conclude our current blog series for this year with an overview of the classification of Christmas articles for festivities under position 9505. There is an Additional note regarding position 9505.10, explaining what items are considered Christmas articles or what decorative articles for Christmas trees entail.

Christmas articles for festivities: Articles widely regarded as traditional Christmas or Advent season items, exclusively manufactured and designed for this purpose, include:

  1. Items associated with the birth of Christ, such as nativity figures, nativity animals, the Star of Bethlehem, the Three Wise Men, and Christmas cribs.

  2. Items deemed suitable for the Christmas or Advent season due to ancient national traditions, such as:

  •   Artificial Christmas trees,

  •   Christmas stockings,

  •   Imitation yule logs,

  •   Christmas crackers,

  •   Santa Clauses (including those with sleighs),

  •   Christmas angels.

The customs tariff does not consider winter articles as Christmas articles, as their objective characteristics indicate they are not exclusively intended for the Christmas or Advent season but mainly for decoration during the winter season.

This includes items such as

  • icicles,

  • snow-crystals,

  • stars,

  • reindeers,

  • robins,

  • snowmen, and

  • other winter motifs/images, regardless of whether their colours or designs suggest a connection to the Christmas holiday.

Decorative articles for Christmas trees: These are items intended for hanging on a Christmas tree, typically made of lightweight, non-permanent materials used to adorn a Christmas tree (e.g., Christmas ornaments, Christmas balls).

We sincerely thank you for your support during our blog series. The festive season is just around the corner, and on behalf of the traide team, we wish you joyful holidays and a blessed Christmas! We look forward to welcoming you with more exciting content in the coming year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
